Overview
I created this as a fun way to practice a VERY important reading skill – identifying beginning sounds! Please remember that this is a focus on SOUNDS, not letters. So, for the beginning sound /k/, there will be pictures of words that start with the letter C and the letter K as they both represent the /k/ sound. No letters are shown in this activity as it is designed to focus on segmenting the beginning sound. Connecting your phonemic awareness to your phonics instruction can be very beneficial for your students! Target sounds are consonant sounds and short vowel sounds.
