Overview

Many decodable readers also include words that kids have not been taught yet. They may include high frequency words that kids would have to memorize before reading the book. I wanted to avoid having to do this, as research shows memorization is not the best way to learn words. Therefore, I ONLY used words that either aligned with the phonics skill being taught, or are high frequency words that are taught with the phonics skills in my scope and sequence. You may also notice that some decodable readers use decodable words, but they are written in a predictable pattern. For example, a book may read “I can nap.” and the following pages substitute “I” with other people or animals that can nap. I wanted to avoid this as well. I carefully chose every single word to ensure these books are 100% decodable if you are following my high frequency word scope & sequence and my phonics scope & sequence! There is one book for each Short Vowel (Short A, Short E, Short I, Short O, and Short U). Please note that short A is the first book, so it only contains short A words & the word THE. Short E contains short A and short E words & so on! Each book has a word list & comprehension questions on the back page. These are not foldable books.
